STNO's Stance on SOPA and PIPA

We wanted to take a moment and let our community know STNO's stance on SOPA and PIPA.

First off, we'd like to say that STNO's been around since January 2008. We've been through quite a bit. We have 46 members and a very dedicated community of regulars.

Had SOPA or PIPA been enacted prior to STNO's inception, STNO would not exist. It's that simple. The STNO community has been built on parody, hilarity and pure comedy. Our TF2 server name still holds the same name as it did back in the beginning (which is a parody, infringing content from a movie). Our forums, livestreams and voicechats are perfect examples of what the US government would be able to censor.

Honestly, I'm asking you, our community, to take notice of SOPA and PIPA and to educate yourselves about what these bills could do to the current state of our Internet. If you disagree with these bills as much as we do, please consider contacting your local representative and ask them to do something about it.

Bam.

Thank Dave for running this for us. It probably costs him more in electricity to run this than the total cost of running a server through a provider. Dave is a good man.

Also, there are typically people on there daily. It usually heats up nightly. Join us.

STNO Needs Your Help!

An Open Letter to the Gamers of STNO,

It’s a new year, and we are looking forward to another twelve months of :
A. Trading National insults with our “America Lite” (Canadian) members.
B. Facilitating the eventual downfall of human civilization as we provide the means for the brightest minds of our generation to spend the hours of their prime mental years building crap with 8-bit graphic blocks instead of curing cancer (you‘re welcome).
C. Endless cock jokes.

To keep the good times rolling actually does require some cash--servers are cheap, but they aren’t free.

Between our servers and the STNOclan.com web site, it costs about $600/year to keep the lights on around here. Our generous supporters have keep things humming for the past couple of years, but we need your help to make sure our bills get paid in 2011.

Every STNO clan member and the REGz are asked to make a donation, in whatever amount they can, to keep the good times rolling for another year. A $50 gift would be a huge help, but $25 or even $10 is great too. The key is-if you enjoy playing here, please do you part to make sure we can keep playing with each other, err…playing together.

Just click here to make a gift to the support fund via PayPal.

Do it Nao.

You will have our eternal gratitude and ensure that our community will be able to continue its quest to achieve world domination through utter mediocrity.

Thanks,
The STNO Management Team

Edit:
Donations have been a bit more sparse than we had hoped, so management has come up with a couple ideas that will hopefully garner more interest.
  • The top 10 non-clan member contributors will be given reserved slots on the server for 3 months.[/*:m]
  • The 3 contributors (member or non-member) will be given the right to choose the map rotation for an entire week. This includes any custom maps, even ones not currently on the server. Further, if there is an admin present and that week's rotation-chooser wants to play a map, the admin will automatically change the map to the desired map at the end of the round (overriding any end of round map vote).[/*:m][/list:u]

One catch, though - to be eligible for one of the prizes, there is a minimum of a $25 donation. If you've already donated, any further donations will be added to your total.

If someone qualifies for both prizes, they will be given both.

Support Charity and Indie Developers!

The Humble Indie Bundle #2 is finally here. The whole idea behind it is to get some indie games out to the masses and collect some money for charity. The most awesome part of the entire deal is that you can name your own damn price for games. So, please support Child's Play Charity, EFF and the Indie devs who make cool games! Works on Mac, PC, and Linux.

Games:
Braid
Cortex Command
Machinarium + Soundtrack
Osmos + Album
Revenge of the Titans

And, here's my little chat with one of the Devs:
Quote:
>I'm glad to see another Humble Indie Bundle! Child's Play is awesome!
>You guys are awesome!
john graham : you're awesome!
>No no no. You're awesomer!
>Now that we're past the formal greeting stage, who wants to dance naked with a whale, rabbits, and some wolves?
john graham : hehe
john graham : gotta help bundle peeps
john graham : sorry I can't chat more

About STNO - "Superior to No One"

A Gaming clan based on community and camaraderie.

Superior to No One (STNO) is a gaming clan bent on global domination through the virtues of first-class mediocrity. We are mainly headquartered in the east US, with bases spread throughout the central US and all the way south to North Carolina and Florida, as well as a lone, remote outpost in eastern Canada. Our strong bonds of friendship grew in the trenches of battle in Team Fortress 2, with members spanning all walks of life: Network and IT specialists, programmers, future educators, brokers, the mechanically-adept, artists, full-time academics, and even a part-time SCA-nerd and fire-breather! As time passed and the gibs dispelled, STNO branched off with strong commitments to Day of Defeat: Source and Left 4 Dead. Currently, we manage a 32 player TF2 server, "STNO's Corner Penthouse of Spook Central-FAST DL/Respawn," a 32 player DoD:S server, "STNO's DoD Server," and a few dedicated L4D servers.

STNO encourages you to join and play on our game servers, register and participate in our community, and to have a fun and responsible gaming experience that is douchebag- and asshat-free!
