Now I realize a lot of you might have a soft spot for the quake sounds, but here are my reasons for wanting to get rid of them:

1. The on screen messages have some negative effects. First, they interrupt and override any sm_csay text. Sure, that text is usually not to important, but it could be.

2. Second, they ruin screenshots! I've had many otherwise brilliant screenshots marred with a message like "{SKC}BubblyTits is Dominating!!" and my photoshop skills are not enough to fix it.

3. When the server is full as it often is, the quake sounds are basically getting spammed constantly.

4. The female sounds are better, and of course each user can simply disable the sounds, but not everyone knows that, and more importantly, if you want to change or remove the sounds, you must do so every map and that's too much work.

5. Are quake sounds even charming anymore? They just seem so very overplayed at this point. We already have our new visitors download a significant amount of sounds. Granted, the vast majority will already have the quake sounds, but it's more 1's and 0's for the fresh meat who don't.

So basically I'd like to see if we can get them removed. If I've been wrong about anything I've written, I'd like to know. Thoughts, feelings?

I just don't download sounds. Fixes half the issues on that list.

How does ya do that? There an option somewhere to stop you from downloading server songs?

Options or Settings or whatever the hell it says on yours where you can change shit like sprays, controls and graphics settings.

It's under the multiplayer tab, right next to where you change your spray. You should see something about Download settings. The options are "Do Not Download Sounds", "Do not download any custom files" and "Download Everything."

Of course, when setting it to "Do not download any custom files", while that does prevent you from downloading the huge deluge of custom textures and admin skins that some obnoxious servers force on you, it also does prevent you from downloading custom maps and the files necessary for that map.
